IDEA for Administrators: Least Restrictive Environment, Procedural Due Process, and Parent Participation

This webinar explains three principles of the federal special education law, Individuals with Disabilities Education act. The principle of the least restrictive environment requires schools to educate children with disabilities with those who do not have disabilities to the maximum extent appropriate for the child with a disability, and to do so in academic , extra-curricular, and other school activities, subject to some exceptions. The principle of procedural due process requires fairness between school and parent dealings and offers three ways for schools and parents to resolve their differences. The principle of parent participation enables parents to be full partners with schools in making decisions about their children’s education. This course explains each of these principles.
